Halloween Witch Hat Cupcakes

 


Never mind the usual ghosts and pumpkins, they will take their hats off to you over these!  There is very simple modeling involved in these spooky specimens so you can be as creative as you like.

  • 1 batch of vanilla cupcakes in orange or Halloween cupcake cups
  • 1/2 batch of fondant icing
  • black and red rolled fondant icing
  • bright yellow star sprinkles
  • pastry tip
  • edible glitter

Spread a plain white fondant icing disk over each cupcake, close to the edges.  Using a suitable size pastry tip and the black rolled fondant, fashion the cone of the witch’s hat around the tip, allowing enough excess to make the floppy brim.

Put a thin red band of rolled fondant icing around the base of the hat.

Decorate the hat with several stars, and finish with a scattering of edible glitter.

**  Try your newfound modeling skills with other shapes… black cats, broomsticks and cauldrons.
